The Lady Barons Soccer hosted the number five team in the nation on Saturday, Tennessee Southern, and despite holding out for the first 10 minutes of the match, the Firehawks quickly showed why they are a top-ranked contender and hoping to compete not only for a conference championship but a national title this season.
The Lady Barons did all they could, but after making some position changes, the Firehawks rattled off nine unanswered goals in the first half and picked right where they left off in the second half, scoring seven unanswered to take a 16-0 win.
The Lady Barons worked hard and held off UTSouthern for 12 minutes before the Firehawks removed the lid. Led by the incredible scoring displays from Nao Katamoto and Maclani Michael, the Firehawks were unstoppable, and the Lady Barons had no answer. Angel Camacho managed to save nine shots in the first half and was constantly barraged with chances.
The second half repeated the first half and saw more goals from Maclani and Nao, leading their team to victory over the Lady Barons. Zoey Elliot came into the game at the start of the second half and faced the same treatment as Angel. Zoey forced aside six great chances, but the opportunities were too numerous to keep the Firehawks off the board.
The Firehawks led in shots 47-0. Corner kicks were 14-0 for the Firehawks. Brewton-Parker led in saves 14-0. The Lady Barons led in fouls six-two.
Brewton-Parker looks to return to work against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College at home on Thursday, October 17.
