Indians Fall To Raiders
The Vidalia High School Indians football team had a tough matchup last Friday night in Savannah as they took on the #1 ranked Raiders of Savannah Christian. The Raiders are the #1 team in the GHSA’s private school division but are also a part of the Indians Region.
The Raiders wasted no time in putting points on the board as they capped off a drive early in the first quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run. They tacked on the PAT to take a 7-0 lead. That was the only score in the first quarter of the game.
Early in the second quarter, the Raiders added to their lead with a 23-yard run for a score with the extra point they led 14-0 over VHS. Then with just two minutes left in the first half, they scored again, this time on a 5-yard run. With the extra point, the score was 21-0 heading into halftime.
Savannah added another touchdown just two minutes into the third quarter of the game on a 4-yard run. One more score came just two minutes later on a 31yard pass. That pushed their lead to 34-0. Then with three minutes left in the third, they scored again, this time on a 10yard pass for the touchdown. With the PAT, they were on top 41-0.
The Raiders scored one more time in the game with less than a minute to play in the third quarter on a 62-yard punt return. With the extra point, they held a 48-0 lead over the Indians.
Vidalia scored their only touchdown of the game with four minutes left to play on a 3-yard run by Adrian Newkirk. VHS went for the twopoint conversion but did not get it, making the final score of the game, 486.
The Indians are now 3-3 on the season, and they are 0-1 in Region play. This week they will host the Tigers of Swainsboro for Homecoming. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
