VHA Falls In State Tourney
The Vidalia Heritage Academy Lady Eagles softball team took their first trip to the GIAA State Playoffs last week as they traveled to Columbus to play in the Elite 8 Tournament. It was a tough go for the Eagles as they went two-and-out, but they gained valuable experience that the program can use going forward. vs. Citizens
The first game of the tournament for the Eagles was against Citizens Christian Academy's Lady Patriots.
VHA got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning, but in the bottom of the frame, the Patriots had a huge innings as they plated 16 runs to take a commanding 16-1 lead.
VHA added a run in the top of the second inning, but CCA put five more on the board in the bottom of the second to lead, 21-2.
Heritage did manage to score five runs in the top of the third inning to close the lead to 21-7, but one more by CCA in the bottom of the third gave them the run rule win, 22-7.
The loss sent VHA into the losers' bracket where they would have to face Fullington Academy. vs. Fullington
Against the Lady Trojans of Fullington in an elimination game, the Eagles played better, but still fell to end their tournament run.
Fullington scored a run in the top of the first inning to take the early lead, and then added another in the top of the second to make it 2-0. The Trojans put eight more on the board in the top of the third inning to take a 10-0 lead over VHA.
The Eagles scored their only run on the game in the bottom of the third inning, but Fullington plated one more in the top of the fourth on the way to an 11-1 victory.
The loss ended the season for VHA, but with a young program, they are looking for continued improvements and are hoping to be back into the State Playoffs next season.
