Bulldogs Fall To Jackets
The Toombs County High School basketball teams got their season underway last week as they hosted the Yellow Jackets of Jeff Davis on Saturday. Both teams gave it their all against Jeff Davis but came up short on the day. The Bulldog boys’ team is still missing several players that are on the football team that will be playing for the State Championship next week.
Girls vs. JD
In the girls’ contest, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter of the game. JD took a commanding 19-5 lead in the first over Toombs. In the second, the Lady Bulldogs closed in on the lead, but heading to halftime the Jackets were still on top, 26-16.
Toombs did a better job in the second half as they kept pace in the third quarter, but the Jackets were up 40-31 going to the fourth quarter. In the fourth Jeff Davis extended their lead as they took the win over Toombs, 56-41.
TCHS was led by Brinley Miller with 17 points, Arianna Hill added 14 points, and Taylor Bland posted 8 in the loss.
Boys vs. JD
In the boys’ game, the Bulldogs held the early lead as they were in front of the Jackets, 18-11, at the end of the first quarter. But in the second, Jeff Davis’s defense held Toombs to just 4 points to make the halftime score 22-21 with Toombs on top by just one point.
In the third quarter, the Jackets took the lead and pulled away to a 4636 lead heading to the fourth quarter. In the fourth, Jeff Davis extended the lead and went on to win the game, 6046, over the Bulldogs.
Toombs was led by Parker Stanley with 17 points with Jaydan Mitchell adding 11 in the loss.
This week the Bulldogs were scheduled to play Savannah Christian on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday at home against Savannah Country Day at 6:00 p.m. and then on Saturday they will be at Telfair County at 3:00 p.m.
