Excitement erupted in Toombs Central Elementary School teacher Erica Tinoco’s classroom on Friday morning, October 18, as Tinoco was honored with the monthly Greater Vidalia Chamber Super Star Teacher Award.
The Super Star Teacher award is an initiative the Chamber began in January to honor the extraordinary teachers who go above and beyond the call of duty, and ultimately, impact lives. The program is overseen by Chamber Director of Operations Amber O’Connor, who spoke on the opportunity.
“The Chamber is excited to be able to offer this program to our community! We couldn’t think of a more deserving group of professionals in our workplace to be recognized for their dedication to students and their community,” she remarked. “A Superstar Teacher demonstrates excellence in leadership in their classroom along with motivation for their students. They show a high level of commitment to not only their students but their community.”
Nominations for the award are collected by the Chamber every month, then reviewed by monthly sponsors to select a winner, who is presented with the award and prizes during the school day. This month’s presentation was sponsored by South Central Realty and Dermatology Associates.
During the presentation of the honor to Tinoco, South Central Realty Representative Deidre Barnett shared the nomination which earned Tinoco the award. This nomination read, “Mrs. Tinoco goes above and beyond for her students. My child in particular brags on how Mrs. Tinoco makes learning so much fun. At the beginning of the school year my daughter was having a tough time adjusting to the new year, Mrs. Tinoco immediately noticed and took control! She reached out to me to let me know she would be adjusting things in her classroom to suite her students to the best of their ability. My daughter now loves going into school each morning to be greeted by ‘the best teacher ever’ as she makes each and every student feel seen and heard.”
“I am incredibly grateful to have been chosen for this award!” Tinoco emphasized. “It is a true honor. I deeply love my students and my school, and I hope to make as significant an impact on them as they have had on me. They truly make it all worthwhile!'
Toombs Central Elementary School Principal Wendie Sikes also spoke on the occasion. “We are super proud of her and it’s well deserved. She’s always willing to help wherever needed and she loves the kids and does a great job,” she remarked.
Nominations have already closed for the November Super Star Teacher award, which will be announced next month.
