The American Legion Post 97 presented 3 local citizens with Bravo Zulu pins and certificates during the post’s meeting on October 17 to celebrate their contributions to veterans.
The Bravo Zulu pin is a combination of the Brazo and Zulu nautical flags, which each serve as a naval symbol meaning, “well executed” or “well done.” Prior to the ceremony to honor these individuals Post 97 Adjutant Norman Munthe purchased the pens for the post as a symbol of gratitude to give to those who serve veterans.
Junior Elkhatib was the first individual to be honored by the Post, as the Legion celebrated Elkhatib’s dedication to raising money for homeless veterans by spending one week living on the streets earlier this year.
Debra O’Neal was recognized by the Post for devoting 12.5 years of service to the Georgia Department of Veterans Service, as she worked as a veterans service officer.
Harry Harper was celebrated at the event for volunteering his time to the Post by painting the location’s flagpole. The Post emphasized their gratitude to the honorees for their work on behalf of veterans in the area.
