CONTEXT

A compilation of quotations on a variety of issues by national, state and regional writers, well-known personalities, just plain everyday people and from various publications collected by the editors of THE ADVANCE.

Quotes for our Times:

Byron York, chief political correspondent for The Washington Examiner: Can the nation wait until Jan. 20?

Now, we're in an obviously unusual situation that, with any luck, is unlikely to be replicated soon. For one thing, President Biden, at 82 years old, is no longer mentally and physically up to the job of being a full-time president. For another, Trump has been president before and is running a far smoother transition than he did the first time around, in 2016-2017. In other words, Biden is ready to go, and Trump is ready to replace him. The circumstances are right for a shorter transition. But that will not always be the case. Without an overwhelming crisis, like the situation in 1932-1933, it seems unlikely there will be enough political will to make a change, so Jan. 20 it is.

Matt Vespa, Senior Editor at Townhall. com: CNN reveals a predictable issue regarding those who think healthcare CEO killer is a hero.

Before his arrest, the Left was salivating over this ‘eat the rich’ mentality regarding the killing. As it turns out, Mr. Mangione hails from a prominent Baltimore family, went to a posh private school, and was Ivy Leagueeducated. His family, ironically, was very philanthropic within the healthcare system. That liberal narrative is dead: you can’t scream ‘eat the rich’ when the alleged killer was likely wealthier than his intended victim.

Kurt Schlichter, conservative political commentator and author: Tactics, techniques and procedures to keep deep state bureaucrats from obstructing Donald Trump’s agenda.

By the way, there are reports that the deep state is trying to solidify its hold on power with last-minute reclassifications of jobs, renegotiation of union contracts, and similar antics. The President must override all this with an executive order on Inauguration Day. Let the bureaucrats tell it to the judge.

If we’re serious about draining the swamp, we must play smart against the bureaucrats. They will be turning all their evil cunning against us, so our people must demand change and enforce our will. Anything less is accepting failure, and we’ve accepted failure for long enough.

David Marcus, conservative columnist: Call me an optimist, but I don't believe Americans are celebrating murder.

If Mangione is guilty of the senseless killing of a health care executive, he will soon have a similar realization. He will discover that he will not have drawn attention to his cause, or become a folk hero. All he would have done, aside from destroying a family, is to end his own life as a free man.

Look, there is a very small group of far-left lunatics who think they can justify the murder of Thompson, and believe me, social media will find and display all of them to a chorus of outraged response, but remember that this is a tiny minority of Americans.

Brian Thompson deserved to live. His kids deserved to have their dad. That is all that really matters here, and his murderer will not be made into a martyr.
