The Lyons Police Department has been working diligently to investigate street-level narcotics and drug trafficking in an effort to get drugs off the streets since October, and have arrested four individuals on drug charges since the effort began.

During this operation, the Lyons Police Department Patrol and Criminal Investigations Divisions have been targeting areas known for having high drug activity. “With the combined efforts of both divisions and the use of technology, we have been able to eradicate illegal drug activity which yielded the seizure of a quantity of drugs and firearms and the arrest of several individuals,” Lyons Police Chief Wesley Walker explained.

On November 10, officers arrested Salamion Rashad Yarbrough, 37, of Lyons, and charged him with fleeing and attempting to elude (felony), possession of cocaine (felony), reckless driving, driving while license suspended or revoked, operating a vehicle while registration is suspended, no insurance, removing or affixing a license plate with intent to concea l identity of vehicle, poss ession of a cont rolled substance (felony), and poss ession of a cont rolled substance not in original container. One week later, on November 17, officers arrested Christopher Antonio Preston, 31, of Lyons, on charges of possession of marijuana less than an ounce (misdemeanor), possession of ecstasy (felony), driving while license suspended or revoked, and a seatbelt violation.

Jason Timmons, 45, of Lyons, was arrested that same day on charges of possession of cocaine (felony), possession of marijuana more than an ounce (felony), and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

On November 30, police arrested DeCarlos Willingham, 45, of Vidalia, and charged him with possession of marijuana ( mi sdemeanor), operating a vehicle while registration is suspended, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (felony), and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime (felony).

“This is an ongoing investigation into the distribution of illegal drugs in our community. The Lyons Police Department proactively works to combat drug trafficking to keep our community safe. Additional arrests are anticipated,” Walker said.
