BPC Lady Barons Pick Up Win

It was a busy week for the Lady Barons basketball team of Brewton-Parker College as they played three games last week. They came back to take a win over Coastal Georgia on Monday, lost to Bethel on Friday, and then lost to Campbellsville on Saturday. vs. Coastal Georgia
The Brewton-Parker Lady Barons staged a spirited second-half comeback to take a necessary win against the Coastal Georgia Mariners on Monday, finishing 59-45. The non-conference face-off at Brewton-Parker's home court saw the team reverse a halftime deficit to triumph.
Despite trailing by one point at halftime with a score of 27-28, the Lady Barons showcased their resilience in a crucial game moment. A pivotal sevenpoint run at the end of the second quarter set the stage for a dramatic second half. Destanee Wright (20 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal), Chasity Degale (11 points, 2 rebounds, 3 steals), Andranique Stewart (10 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal) and Angel McRae (4 points, 14 rebounds, 3 steals) were influential in turning the game around for the Lady Barons. The Lady Barons once again dominated their opponents on the glass pulling down 40 rebounds versus the Mariners 35. The Lady Barons continue to show the importance of being strong on the glass. vs. Bethel
Brewton-Parker College faced a tough test on Friday, at the Powell Gym as they were defeated by the Bethel (TN) Wildcats, 43-77. Despite strong efforts, the Barons were unable to keep up with the Wildcats’ pace, concluding the game with a significant loss.
From the onset, Bethel (TN) took an early lead, setting the tone at halftime with a score of 33-26. They continued to dominate throughout the second half, amplifying their lead and securing a notable victory by the final whistle. Barons' top scorer Chasity Degale showcased a commendable performance, contributing 18 points. However, Brewton-Parker overall struggled against the Wildcats' robust defense and consistent offense.
Coach Steve Edwards reflected on the team's performance and the challenges faced during the game. 'We were out classed today by a better team. We always look for opportunities to play really good teams and today we learned a lot about our group. I have to do a better job of preparing us for games like today. I also have to do a better job of getting this group to play at their potential. We like our group and we believe in time, we will be a really good team,' stated Edwards, emphasizing the learning and growth potential from these tough games. vs. Campbellsville
In a challenging regular season non-conference encounter, the Brewton-Parker Lady Barons faced a tough defeat against the Campbellsville Tigers with a final score of 47-76 at Powell Gym on Saturday.
The game started with the Tigers taking a significant lead in the first half, ending it at 42-20. Despite a spirited effort in the second half, the Lady Barons were unable to close the gap, ultimately losing the game by 29 points. Top scorers for the Lady Barons included Destanee Wright with 13 points, followed closely by Kaziah Terrell with 12 points, and Andranique Stewart contributing 7 points.
Coach Steve Edwards expressed his thoughts on the game, emphasizing the quality of the opposition. 'We played a great team today. Our group was overpowered, and we struggled to make plays. Our expectation is to be a national tournament team. The two teams we played this weekend are legit contenders. We learned a lot, and we will use these two games as opportunities to improve. We will be better, and we believe in this group,' said Edwards.
The Lady Barons, holding a current team record of 2-3, look forward to bouncing back in their next game against Valdosta State on November 12, 2024, at Valdosta State. Fans of Brewton-Parker will be keen to see how the team uses this experience to progress through the season.
