Toombs County High School Engineering Teacher Jess Bush has been awarded national honors, as he has been named one of the International Technology & Engineering Education Association (ITEEA) Teachers of Excellence.

Bush is one of twenty teachers from across the nation to receive this recognition, which is the highest honor given to technology and engineering classroom teachers at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Teachers are nominated for this award based on their contributions to the profession and impact on their students; these nominations are reviewed by state committees – who select a state champion – before moving on to the national competition, where a committee selects the top nominees.

Currently, Bush is in his 24th year of teaching, and teaches Foundations of Engineering and continued from page

Technology, Engineering Concepts, and Engineering Applications.

“I am very honored and humbled to be recognized for this award,” he reacted. “I love what I do and I enjoy working with the staff, students, and administration of Toombs County High School. Go dogs!”

Toombs County High School Principal Marissa Morris also spoke on the honor, saying, “Mr. Bush is a phenomenal teacher who is very deserving of this prestigious award. We are very proud of him!”

Superintendent Barry Waller added, 'We are blessed to have Mr. Bush as a teacher in our system. His innovative strategies and ability to connect with kids create a positive learning environment in his classroom. Jess works tirelessly, along with his peers at TCHS, to make our schools a great place for our students to be successful as we prepare them for life.'

Bush will travel to St. Louis, Missouri, in April to receive the award.
