Two Wins For Indians
It was a light week for the Indians of Vidalia High School last week as each team played only one game. The Lady Indians faced off with St. Vincent’s in Savannah on Tuesday, and the boys hosted Long County on Friday. Both VHS teams won their games.
Girls vs. St. Vincent’s
The Lady Indians were in complete control of this game over the Saints. VHS jumped out to a 17-8 lead in the first quarter and improved that to 2716 by halftime.
In the third quarter of the contest, VHS outscored the Saints, 20-14, as they held a 47-30 lead heading to the fourth. VHS went on to win the game, continued from page
67-37, as they pulled away in the final period.
The Lady Indians were led by Hannah Nichols with 20 points, Mischa Wardlaw added 14, and Takaiyah Bacon scored 10 in the win. The Lady Indians are now 10-6 on the season and are 5-0 in Region action.
Boys vs. Long
The Indians improved to 12-4 on the season with a decisive 49-39 victory over the Long County Blue Tide in a non-region basketball contest. The Indians showcased a balanced and relentless performance, particularly on defense, to secure the win.
Jayon Coleman was the standout player for Vidalia, scoring an impressive 29 points to lead his team. His scoring ability was crucial throughout the game, as he consistently found ways to break down Long County’s defense. Rashad Brown chipped in 11 points.
While Coleman provided the offensive spark, the Indians’ defense was a key factor in the win. Vidalia’s players were tenacious, keeping pressure on the Blue Tide from start to finish.
The inside presence of DJ Wallace, Jamorion Phillips, and Josh Farmer was dominant, especially on the boards. The trio led the rebounding efforts, controlling the paint and limiting Long County’s second-chance opportunities. Their physicality in the post helped the Indians gain crucial possessions and extend their lead.
This week VHS was at Woodville-Tompkins on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action at Toombs County on Friday at 6:00 p.m., and then will travel to Dodge County on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
