Bulldogs Pick Up 2 Wins
The Toombs County High School Bulldogs basketball teams had a busy week as they faced off with the Fighting Irish of Dublin, their cross-county rival Vidalia, and the Trojans of Telfair County. The Lady Bulldogs dropped all three of their matches, while the boys got wins over Dublin and Telfair.
Girls vs. Dublin
It was a slow start for both teams as Toombs held a slim, 8-6, lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second, though, Dublin came back and went ahead, 1918, before the end of the first half.
In the third quarter, the Lady Bulldogs held the Irish to just three points as they took the lead back, 25-22. But in the fourth, Toombs went cold, and could not hold off Dublin, who took the win, 33-30.
Toombs was led by Brinley Miller and Arianna Hill who scored 10 points each.
Boys vs. Dublin
On Tuesday, Toombs County bounced back with a hard-fought 46-42 road win over Dublin. Gavin Fletcher came through in the clutch, scoring 7 of his 9 total points in the final two minutes. He tipped in a missed shot with 1:30 left to cut the deficit to 41-42, then drained a three-pointer with 27 seconds remaining to give Toombs the lead. He sealed the victory with a fast-break layup in the final seconds. The defense also played a crucial role, holding Dublin scoreless over the last three minutes while Toombs finished the game on a 14-3 run.
The game was tied 7-7 after the first quarter, but Dublin went on a run in the second as they took a 25-17 lead into halftime. Toombs came back in the third quarter to close the lead to 3230. And in the fourth, Toombs went on to win the game, 46-42.

Girls vs. Vidalia
It was all Vidalia in the girls’ game on Friday in Lyons. Toombs was able to hold with them in the first quarter and even held a 12-11 lead heading to the second, but that is where everything changed. VHS went on a 16-8 run in the second to hold a 27-20 lead going to halftime.
In the third quarter, VHS continued to pull away and were up 48-28 at the end of the third. Vidalia went on to win the game, 72-34.
TCHS was led again by Miller and Hill, who each posted 9 points in the loss.
Boys vs. Vidalia
Despite 20 points from Fletcher, the Bulldogs fell behind and were not able to catch up to the Indians. Vidalia was on top 18-15 at the end of the first quarter, but in the second, the Bulldogs went ice cold as they scored just 3 points. That gave VHS a big lead heading to halftime that Toombs was not able to overcome. VHS was up, 34-18, at the end of the first half.
Toombs made a comeback in the third quarter as they outscored the Indians, 16-5, which closed the lead to 39-34 going to the fourth. In the fourth, the Indians held on to take the win, 50- 43.
Girls vs. Telfair
Against the Lady Trojans, Toombs found themselves behind, 12-4, at the end of the first quarter. In the second, Toombs did close the lead down a bit, but were still behind, 16-11, at halftime.
