Lady Vikings Into State Tourney

The Vikings basketball teams of Treutlen County High School played in the Region Tournament last week with the girls advancing to the State Tournament. The Lady Vikings got a close win over Wheeler County but fell to Wilcox County. The boys lost their game against Montgomery County to end their season.

Girls vs. Wheeler

The Lady Vikings won a nail biter over Wheeler County as they came storming back in the fourth quarter to win the game by just one point.

In the first quarter of the game, Wheeler jumped out to a big 15-5 lead over Treutlen. In the second quarter, Treutlen started to get their offense going, but the Lady Bulldogs took a 31-19 lead into halftime.

Wheeler continued to extend their lead in the third quarter as they looked to be in control of the game. Wheeler was up, 48-34, heading to the fourth quarter. But in the fourth, Treutlen went on a run as they outscored the Lady Bulldogs 25-10 in the fourth quarter. It was just enough as the Lady Vikings took a 5958 win over Wheeler. Boys vs. Montgomery

On Wednesday of last week, the Vikings took on the Eagles of Montgomery County in the first round of the Region Tournament. It was a close game, but MCHS pulled out the win over the Vikings. MCHS won the game 68-64.

The loss ended the Vikings' season. They finished with a record of 1411.

Girls vs. Wilcox

The Lady Vikings lost in the second round of the tournament to the Lady Patriots of Wilcox County. Wilcox went on a big run in the first quarter as they held Treutlen to just three points that gave Wilcox a 25-3 lead by the end of the first. In the second quarter, they extended that lead, and were on top, 46-10, at halftime.

In the second half, the Vikings played better, but they were trailing, 61-24, heading to the fourth. Treutlen went on a run in the fourth, but the game was out of reach, with Wilcox taking the win, 67-42.

This week the Lady Vikings took on Screven County on Tuesday, in the State Tournament, after presstime. If they win that game, they will move on to play on Friday against the winner of the Marion County vs. Greenville game.
