Toombs County Young Farmers Attend State Convention

Recently, the Toombs County Young Farmers Chapter had 21 members in attendance at the 75th Annual Georgia Young Farmers Association (GYFA) State Convention held at the Jekyll Island Convention Center. Members attended educational breakout sessions on a variety of agricultural topics, took advantage of networking opportunities in the trade show, and competed in several contests and competitions.
A highlight of the convention was the announcement of the 2024 Georgia Outstanding Young Farm Family of the Year which was awarded to our members Aries and Megan Haygood. This contest is based on the level of success in meeting the Georgia Young Farmer goals: to promote efficient management of land, labor, and capital in farming, to develop leadership necessary to propel the agriculture industry forward, to advance the philosophy of community services and to ensure the applications of sound environmental practices. The Haygood Family represented the central region of the state and competed against the north and south region finalists.
Another exciting accomplishment for the chapter is that member Landon Cowart, who has served this past year as the junior director for the central region on the GYFA State Board, was promoted to senior director and will serve the association for another year. We are excited for Landon and proud of his service to the GYFA.
