Rough Week For TCHS
The Toombs County High School boys basketball team took on the Tigers of Swainsboro last Tuesday on the road and both the boys and girls were at Tattnall County on Saturday to take on the Warriors. It was a tough week for the Bulldogs as they fell in all three games.
Boys vs. Swainsboro
The TCHS boys started strong, taking a commanding 17-4 lead in the first quarter. However, Swainsboro dominated the second and third quarters, outscoring the Bulldogs 37-14 during that stretch. Despite their efforts, Toombs couldn’t overcome the deficit and fell short in the matchup. Toombs lost the game 54-42.
One of the key factors in the loss was the disparity at the freethrow line. Toombs County went just 0-for-2 from the stripe, while Swainsboro capitalized on their opportunities, going 11-for-19. The Bulldogs know they need to bring a more physical presence to even out the free-throw opportunities moving forward.
Leading the Bulldogs was Gavin Fletcher with 13 points, and Cornelius Bullard added 8 points in the loss.
Girls vs. Tattnall
It was a struggle for the Lady Bulldogs from the start of the game against the Lady Warriors. Toombs never could get the offense going as they dropped the game, 50-21.
Boys vs. Tattnall
It was a close game between the Bulldogs and the Warriors. Toombs took the early lead and were on top, 15-10, at the end of the first quarter. But in the second, Tattnall came back and closed the Bulldogs lead to 24-22 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Warriors took the lead from Toombs and were up, 36-33, heading to the fourth quarter. Toombs couldn’t get the run they needed in the final quarter as they fell to the Warriors, 45-42.
The Lady Bulldogs are now 2-9 on the season and they are 1-4 in Region play. The boys are 6-6 on the year and they are 1-2 in Region play.
This week Toombs hosted Savannah Country Day on Monday and were at Dublin on Tuesday, both after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday when the Indians of Vidalia come to town at 6:00 p.m., and on Saturday they will host Telfair County at 3:00 p.m.
