Johnson Nips Wheeler
The Bulldog basketball teams of Wheeler County High School dropped a pair of games to Johnson County last Saturday in Wrightsville. The girls lost big, but the boys forced overtime before losing to the Trojans.
Girls vs. Johnson
Johnson pulled out to an early lead in the first period, and were up 12-6 when the buzzer sounded. It was a big second for Johnson that put the game away as they outscored Wheeler 21-3 to hold a 33-9 halftime lead. In the third Johnson extended their lead to 47-15 and they went on to win the game 56-17.
Boys vs. Johnson
It was a close game throughout, but Wheeler came up just short. The Trojans were up 10-9 at the end of the first period, and held onto their lead and were on top 23- 20 at halftime. In the third period the Bulldogs came back and went up by one points as they led 44-43 heading to the fourth. In that fourth period Johnson did just enough as they tied the game at 54-54 to force overtime.
In overtime Johnson came out on top and took the win, 65-62. This week Wheeler will take on Vidalia on Friday in Vidalia with games beginning at 6:00 p.m. and then on Saturday Wheeler will host rival Montgomery County with games at 6:00 p.m.
