case has been forwarded to Superior Court for a preliminary hearing and bond hearing. The case will then go before the Wheeler County Grand Jury, which will consider whether to indict Redding, after which an arraignment will be held.
The victim was found in his cell by correctional facility staff and transported to Memorial Health Meadows Hospital where he was pronounced deceased, according to Core-Civic, Inc., which owns the medium security facility. The incident occurred at approximately 8:45 a.m., and the facility was immediately placed on lockdown status.
The inmate’s body was transported to the state crime lab for an autopsy and authorities began investigation of the incident, which led to Redding’s arrest and murder charge.
Redding was also charged with giving inmates liquor, drugs, weapons, etc., without the consent of the warden; and the possession of firearm/knife during the commission of or attempt to commit felonies.
WCF, which has the capacity to house 2,874 male inmates, opened in 1998 inside the Alamo city limits.
