Williams Heading To Capital

On Wednesday of last week, KJ Williams of Wheeler County High School signed his letter of intent to play football for Capital University Comets in Columbus, OH. He was a top defensive lineman for the Bulldogs and will take those talents to the next level.
Williams said, “Just feels like a dream come true. I have always wanted this opportunity and for it to come just feels great. Capital was one of the first schools to reach out to me, and when I went up there, they really made me feel like I was at home. It is a long way from home, but my family will be there for me, and I’m sure we will talk a lot, but I’m looking forward to this experience. I have to thank God, my family, and my coaches for helping me get to where I am today.”
His father Kerry Williams Sr. stated, “All this hard work has paid off for him. I am proud of him for this. He is going aways away, but he has to start somewhere. I think we have him prepared for this, and we are looking forward to seeing what he can do. He has always been a smart kid, respectful, and I don’t have any fears for him. Just a proud day to be a dad.”
Wheeler Head Coach Thomas Smith added, “We are excited for him earning this opportunity. KJ is heading off to Columbus, and it is a cool story of how this all happened. He had a couple of offers that were closer, but we were at a recruiting fair, and they came up and asked about him and if he would move that far away. I sent him a text, and he said of course. They all went on the visit, and it just worked out from there.
“KJ has been a threeyear starter for us and has played on both sides of the ball the past two seasons. He has barely left the field and has just been great for us. He has worked his tail off and has done a really good job for us. He is a really good athlete, has done a great job in the weight room, and Capital is getting a good kid and player.”
