The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Crusaders and the Vidalia Heritage Academy Eagles baseball teams met last week for a three-game Region series. It was the opening Region series for both teams, and the Eagles came away with two wins over the Crusaders’ one.

Game 1

The first game of the series was on Monday of last week at VHA, and it was the only game that RTCA picked up the win in. Brittan Tabor was the difference for the Crusaders as he pitched a gem, striking out 14 batters and giving up just three hits.

Heritage got on the board first, with an unearned run in the bottom of the of the second inning. RTCA took the lead in the top of the fourth inning with a run on a Heritage error to tie the game, and then they took the lead on a fielder’s choice by Anderson Moore.

RTCA added one more run in the top of the seventh inning as they took the win over VHA, 3-1.

Game 2 The second game of the series was on Tuesday at RTCA. Heritage took continued from page

the early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning. Jake Adams drove in the first run of the inning, and then another run came in on an error by the Crusaders.

RTCA closed the lead to 2-1 with a run in the bottom of the second inning, but VHA plated one more in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth to push their lead to 5-1. Heritage kept RTCA off the board over the final two innings to take the win by that score.

Greer Posey got the win on the mound for VHA, giving up five hits and just one run, with eight strikeouts.

Game 3

The two teams were back at VHA on Thursday for the final game of the series. RTCA jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning with Banks Hopkins and Tabor each driving in a run. Heritage picked up a run in the bottom of the first inning and then tied the game at 2-2 in the third inning.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Eagles took the lead when Juddson Wilkes drove in two runs with an RBI single. Trevor White picked up an RBI to push the lead to 5-2 heading to the fifth inning. RTCA added a run in the top of the fifth inning, but VHA answered with one in the bottom half of the frame. Heritage plated two more in the sixth inning on the way to an 8-3 win over RTCA.

Wilkes got the win on the mound for Heritage as he gave up four hits while striking out nine batters.

This week Heritage hosted Citizens’ Christian Academy on Tuesday after presstime, and will be back in action on Thursday at CCA at 4:30 p.m. The Crusaders will host First Presbyterian Christian on Wednesday of this week at 4:00 p.m.
