Open Burning Ban in Effect in Vidalia
mrandolphadvance@gmail.com
Because of the dry conditions, low humidity, and high winds, the Vidalia Fire Department has issued an open burning ban within the city limits. This open burning ban outlaws citizens from burning yard waste, land clearing debris, or other open burning materials. Outdoor grilling and small backyard fire pit burnings are allowed; only natural falling debris should be burned in the fire pits.
The burning of plastics, metals and wires, glass, tires and rubber, grease and asphalt products, liquid petroleum products and hazardous wastes, furniture and mattresses, building and demolition debris, and animal wastes or carcasses is not allowed at any time, regardless if a burn ban is in place or not. Any illegal burning may be subject to fines and citations. For further information, or to report illegal burning, call Fire Chief Brian Sikes at (912) 5374141.
