Lady Barons Split Games

The Brewton-Parker College Lady Barons softball team split a pair of double headers last week. They first took on the University of Mobile Rams on Friday at home and then hosted William Carey University on Saturday. vs. Mobile The Brewton-Parker Barons hosted the #21 University of Mobile Rams for a doubleheader on Friday. The Barons took down the Rams in game one 4-3, dropped game two 3-1, and split the day.
Game one saw Tori Wright contributing two runs for Brewton-Parker. Lexi Bradshaw and Hailey Gabrich also scored, with Bradshaw not only adding to the scoreboard but also contributing an RBI alongside Cailyn Snellgrove, who drove in two runs, and Abbey Flowers. The concerted effort by the players provided the edge needed to outscore Mobile. The Barons were boosted by the efforts of Kaylee Odum in the circle, doing her best to keep the Rams off the board. Despite giving up a two-run shot, the Barons managed to hold off the Rams' offense and take game one.
In game two, Jenny Braddy was a standout performer for the Barons. She contributed significantly by scoring the team's only run and driving in the RBI. Natalie O'Neal took the mound as the starting pitcher for Brewton-Parker, putting up a resilient fight against the Rams' hitters. The Barons stayed in the game but were unable to put together much of an offense and were stifled by the Rams' defensive play. vs. William Carey
On Saturday, the Barons hosted the William Carey University Crusaders in a doubleheader conference clash. Despite trailing in game one, the Barons rallied to walk it off in the bottom of the seventh to take game one 3-2. The Barons struggled mightily in game two, losing 11-0 after five innings, splitting the weekend series.
Game one saw the Barons fall behind early in the first 2-0 and struggle to score. The Barons cut the lead in the bottom of the fifth, scoring off a Moran Willingham single that drove in Lexi Bradshaw. The Barons saw an incredible diving catch at the top of the seventh from Hailey Gabrich, which ended the inning and prevented any more runs from crossing. The bottom of the seventh saw Gabrich double to drive in the tying run in Bradshaw and Willingham to single, score Hanna Rust, and end the game. The Barons were boosted by Kaylee Odum's strong pitching performance, which blanked the Crusaders after the first inning, throwing six scoreless.
Game two saw the Barons struggle on both sides of the ball, getting only two hits and being unable to stifle the Crusaders' dominating offense. Natalie O'Neil started on the mound but, with a struggling infield, was replaced by Samantha Mathews. The Barons still could not hold off the Crusaders, giving up five runs in the third and four runs in the top of the fifth.
While the loss was a hard hit for the Barons, who now stand at a season record of 12-17-1, the team looks ahead to their next challenge. They are scheduled to meet Blue Mountain on April 4, in Blue Mountain, Mississippi.
