mrandolphadvance@gmail.com

The annual Vidalia Onion Cookoff moved downtown to The Dahlia last year, but will return to the center of the action this year, as the annual Cookoff and Public Tasting will be held at the Vidalia Community Center, located at 107 Old Airport Rd., on Saturday, April 26.

The cooking competition will remain the same classic event that attendees know and love, as chefs show off their best creations. Contest categories are Miscellaneous, Appetizer, and Side Dishes, and judges will include local dignitaries and culinary cooking experts.

Dishes will be judged on the use of the onion, taste, and presentation, in that order. Each dish will be assigned points by the judges. Prizes will be awarded in all categories to first and second place winners and a grand prize of $500 cash will go to the overall champion. The winners will be announced at noon. Tasting will also begin at noon and door prizes will also be handed out to attendees during the awards presentation.

Members of the public will be able to get a taste of all the delicious dishes during the event, as it is open for tasting beginning at 11:30 a.m. The admission fee for the tasting is $5.
